Camp Coushatta

Explore the Traditions, Customs and Culture of Native Americans

Camp Coushatta is a unique, hands-on experience where the traditions, customs and culture of the Coushatta's are shared by the Coushatta youth with children of other cultures, helping them acquire a clearer understanding of the Coushatta Tribe. Although camp is geared toward youth ages 6 through 12 (our visitors range in age from 5 to 85), it can be a wonderful family experience. Camp can be experienced fully in one day, however, visitors are welcome to return.

The camp includes a cooking demonstration, basketry, drum making, a weapons & tools display, jewelry making, and a nature station. Visitors can also enjoy a canoe ride, games of tomahawk throwing and archery, a spear throwing contest, storytelling, toys and games, and our newest attraction, a nature walk. The morning ends with Native American dancing held at our new dance arena.

Camp Coushatta is free of charge. Concession items are sold, as well as souvenirs.
